Mangaluru, Mar 25: Canara Organisation for Development and Peace (CODP) in collaboration with Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and post graduate department of Social Work, School of social Work, Roshni Nilaya Mangaluru organized a seminar on ‘Drug Abuse and Addiction: Impact on Brain, Risk factors and Signs’.

The resource personerson was Dr Rosa Nimmy Mathew, head & assistant professor, MSc counselling at School of Social Work Roshini Nilaya. The resource person highlighted that drug addiction is not based on values or will power. It is a disease, initial use might be a choice further on It leads to compulsive uncontrollable usage. The substance hijack the brain and impairs the entire functions of the human body.

Fr Vincent D’Souza secretary of CODP said that there could be an impact on brain function that predisposes an individual to impulsive behavior and addiction. Impulsivity is thought to be one of the most common traits, if not the most common trait, among people who struggle with addiction, and pain is the hallmark of addiction.

Prof Evelyn Bennis, head, PG department of Social Work, appreciated the gathering for their response to the session and she added saying that keep away the substance and live healthy.

Vice principal, Dr Jenis Mary appreciated the students for taking such initiatives and encouraged them to organise more programmes for the betterment of the society.

Registrar Prof Vineetha K, Prof Anuradha Shetty and IQAC co-ordinator Prof Cecilia F Goveous were present. There were 150 students who took active part in the seminar.
