Ms Savitha and Ms Sunitha are two members of Mangala and Pragathi SHGs respectively at Monkey stand, Marnamikatte and these SHGs are promoted by CODP® Mangaluru. Both of them had attended entrepreneur training sessions at CODP. Being motivated by the talks, they dreamt of becoming entrepreneurs. They had some experience of self employment like papad making at local level. They would take their papads, pickles and other eatables to various fairs, shops and sell it there. One of CODP’s animators viz. Mrs Hemalatha would encourage them and even at times accompany them in their efforts.
Savitha recalled the motivating anecdote by Fr. Oswald, the Director of CODP, quoting Mohammed Younus, the Nobel laureate from Bangladesh who dreamt of “making poverty a museum piece”. Both consulted Mr. Kiran of Rachana, Mangaluru and prepared an elaborate project, applied for finance from Karnataka Bank and finally bought a papad making machinery from Gujarat.
On 12th November 2016, they inaugurated their unit- Shri Gowry Food Products at K.C.Road, near Talapady. Now their unit is producing Papads.
Well, both of them had worked hard with regard to marketing. So there is no fear regarding sale. Both of them are aiming even higher and of course – to make poverty a museum piece!
