While October 2nd marks the birth anniversary of the Father of our Nation Mahatma Gandhi; the occasion was also used by CODP to conduct three programmes on this auspicious day. The CAP Quiz 2016 prize distribution programme, CODP Scholarship students’ annual get-together and Motivation to YET-PUC students was jointly held on 2nd October 2016 in CODP’s Mother Theresa hall. Floral tribute was paid to the Father of our Nation before commencing the day’s proceedings.
Mr. Michael D’ Souza, NRI Philanthropist from Mangaluru, was the President of the programme. Rev. Fr Oswald Monteiro, Director-CODP; Rev. Fr Vernon Vaz, Co-ordinator-Guidance Cell and Resource persons Mr. Cyprian Monteiro, DDPI Mangaluru and Mr. Alwyn D Sa, Vice-Principal St. Aloysius College, were present on the dais. Mr. Harold Fernandes, Professional Director of MCC Bank and Principal of Mahesh Degree College, Mangaluru was also present on the dais.
Fr. Oswald Monteiro, Director of CODP welcomed the dignitaries and resource persons. In his introductory speech he explained the basic objectives of Career Advancement Programme and other CAP activities conducted by CODP. He emphasized that our youth should aspire to become Government Officers.
Mr Harold Fernandes handed over the CAP Quiz prizes to the First prize winners: Jason Lydon Quadros and Savin Leroy D Souza. Congratulating the winners he encouraged the students to find opportunities and use the same for their benefit. He further said that there are three things we cannot retrieve in life viz spoken words, lost opportunities and lost time.
Mr Michael D’Souza, awarded the second and third prizes to the winners viz Ruther Tyson Lewis and Shalini Rita Correa respectively. In his speech he said that education is very important and we should keep our self esteem high. Moreover, students should not to miss good opportunities that come their way.
The stage programme was followed by resource talks to the student gathering. Mr. Cyprian Monteiro informed the students of the many vacancies in various Government departments/offices, and motivated the students to take up government jobs. He also urged the students to read different type of general knowledge books, newspapers which will help them to write competitive exams.
Mr. Alwyn D’ Sa spoke on “Study Skills”. Before starting the session he conducted a few energizers like action songs. All students actively participated in it. He told students to be self confident and appear for the exams fully prepared and without fear. “Be happy with yourself is the key for success”.
Mr. Jeevan Moras, an MSW student said that he had appeared for the Sub Inspector’s post in the Karnataka Police recently. Now he studies for his post graduation (MA) in Arts in police administration from Annamalia University in Chennai. He inspired the students to apply for government jobs by giving them some websites where they could apply online for Government jobs.
36 students participated in the programme which ended at 1.00 pm. Mrs. Veena D‘Souza compered the programme and Fr. Vernon Vas proposed the vote of thanks.
