Mangaluru, May 28: CODP, a Mangalore Diocesan NGO celebrated the Golden Jubilee of its existence on Tuesday, May 28 at St Sebastian centenary hall.
The celebration was presided over by Most Rev. Dr Peter Paul Saldanha Bishop of Mangalore. Co-celebrant were Most Rev. Dr Francis Serrao, Bishop of Shivamogga, Bishop Emeritus Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, , Bishop of Mangalore, Most Rev. Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo, Bishop of Udupi, the priests of the city and episcopal deanery were present. Religious sisters and 300 faithful took part in the Eucharistic celebration at Bendur Church.
The celebration began at the Bendur church hall with a prayer dance, performed by Remona Pereira and team. The president of the function Bishop Most Rev. Dr Peter Paul Saldanha honored the “Moga Na’llo” donors of the housing scheme. Bishop Gerald of Udupi Diocese felicitated the former directors. The founder Secretary Monsignor Edwin Pinto was felicitated by Most Rev. Dr Peter Paul Saldanha. Michael D’Souza who donated Rs. 1,82,75,000/- was honored. Two documentaries made on CODP and housing for the poor was screened at the time of celebration. The CODP golden jubilee was marked with a special event of 75 new houses for the poor and 55 renovations. Parishes who donated the highest amount and family wise contribution for the Lenten Campaign in the past years were recognized with Memento and Bouquet.
The president, Bishop Peter Paul Saldanha spoke of CODP as an organisation wiping the tears of the poor and the sorrowful. Patricia, CODP former office secretary, proposed a vote of thanks. The programme was compered by Mrs Irene Rebello and Mr Francis D’Cunha. The present secretary and the staff Nikeeta and Praveen, organised the programme, under the supervision of Fr Vincent D’Souza, Secretary CODP.
