Child Sponsorship Programme October holiday camp -16.10.2023

A one day holiday camp was organized by Child Sponsorship Programme (CSP) of CODP to the beneficiary children/students of this programme  on 16th of October 2023. The camp was held at CODP for children/students of City, Bantwal and Moodbidri centres of Mangalore Diocese.

The programme was started at 10.00am. The resource person for the camp were Fr. Vincent Dsouza, Secretary, CODP, Mr.Francis D’cunha, Headmaster of Paduva High School and Nikeetha Fernandes, Staff of CODP. The topics of the talk were ‘Awareness on Drug Abuse’, ‘Career Advancement Programme’ and ‘Natural Resource Management’. 

The programme started with a prayer hymn sang by students followed by welcome to the resource person and all the beneficiary children/students and their parents by the CSP Coordinator Dorice Fernandes.

Main theme of this camp was a talk on  Drug Abuse”. This theme was selected to prevent our children and students who will be otherwise the wealth of our nation from Drug Abuse.  

The talk began with a heart touching video of a boy who lost his life due to drug abuse which was very much helpful to show the impact of drugs on growing children. Followed by the video, Fr. Vincent Dsouza explained the children/students about the impact of bad friendship that leads the children/students towards the path of addiction. The students also discussed some case stories of drug abused youth in their surroundings and neighbourhood and the impact of drugs on the victims and their families.

After the talk of Fr Vincent Dsouza, Mr. Francis Dcunha gave a talk on Career Advancement Programme. He explained the students that the knowledge of current affairs is very much useful for them to choose  and achieve their dreams for a good future.

Then CODP staff Nikeetha Fernandes gave a talk on Natural Resource Management which is one of the important projects of CODP. How children can be a part in reducing  plastic waste and protecting our nature from deadly plastics. All the talks of the resource persons were very interesting and useful for the students.

The beneficiary children/students were given a chance to  perform dance, action songs and sing songs during the programme. This helped to exhibit their talents as well as the programme became more interesting.

Then the staff collected Christmas letters from the children/students and distributed the instruction handbills to the children/students.

Quiz was conducted to the students studying in 11th standard and above to improve their general knowledge. Games were also conducted to the children/ students in three categories ie. 1st to 6th standard, 7th to 10th standard and students in and above PUC to refresh them. All the children participated in these games and enjoyed. Prizes were given to the winners in the games and quiz.

One of the beneficiary children Ninisha Monteiro proposed Vote of thanks to the resource persons, staff of CODP and  all the participants. Total 140 CSP beneficiary children/students and their parents participated in the camp.  The participants were served breakfast and lunch. The parents too part took of it. The programme was conducted by CSP Coordinator Dorice Fernandes and assisted by Zeena. The programme concluded at around 3.00pm.
