Mangaluru: Convention for protection of environment held at Nirmarga Church

Mangaluru, Apr 23: CODP (R) Mangalore, St Joseph’s the worker Church Neermarga, Vinaya okkoota, Kamadhenu and Kalpavruksha Mahasanga Mangalore, jointly organised the convention for protection of environment at Nirmarga Church premises on April 23.

The eco friendly seat was inaugurated by Fr Anil Canute D’Mello, parish priest of Neermarga parish. This bench is made out of plastic waste and this is an indication for the people to reduce and reuse the plastic waste.

On the auspicious occasion of this programme four saplings planted in the church premises by introducing root zone fertigation Technology to the community. The programme was inaugurated by Fr Vincent D’Souza, director of CODP along with other guests by watering the sapling. In his speech Fr Vincent DSouza, quoted that the protection of environment is like worshiping God, this earth is our home and it is our prime duty to protect our environment.

Fr Anil Cannute Dmello in his presidential speech, our earth as many creators they all are helpful in balancing the ecological system, we should protect our environment. Vice president of St Joseph the workers Church, Francis Gonsalves wished well for the programme. secretary Zeta Usha Fernandes, Mouric Renjal, Satyavati , Jayalakshmi were present on the Dias. Felicitation program was held for nature lover Fedrick and Walter and Violet.

Chandravathi, (protected the passenger of MatsyaGandha train.) Rajendra Kalbhavi, director of Dakshina Kannada Nirmiti Kendra, NITK, Surathkal, as a resource person for the program, spoke on the current situation faced by the people regarding environment. He also gave a call for afforestation. Xavier Kiran Pinto, nature lover, Mangalore, spoke, the significance of snakes and its role in protecting the environment and he gave some tips on how to protect ourselves from the snake bite.

Skit on cancer was performed by the students of Fr Muller’s College of Nursing, Kankanady, Mangalore. Awareness on cancer was given to the people by their play. There after cultural programme was performed by the Shg members of CODP.

Haibert, president of Vinaya Okkoota, welcomed the gathering. Rajesh Nelson DSouza proposed the vote of thanks. The programme was compelled by Merline Pais and Shanti D’Souza. co-ordinator of CODP Rita DSouza, Ravi, Peter and Animator Kala and other staffs of CODP were present in the program. 275 participants were present.
